Signal Tests Android Companion Device Functionality

Privacy-focused messaging application Signal is testing a new feature allowing users to link an Android smartphone or tablet as a secondary device. As reported by AboutSignal, this capability is currently available in the platform’s beta version.

This option lets individuals utilize their Signal account on a secondary Android phone without registering a separate telephone number. The linked companion device automatically synchronizes chats and messages with the primary one. This capability also extends to Android tablets.

To link a companion device, users install Signal on it and choose “Link device” during registration to display a QR code. Next, navigating to Settings – Connected Devices – Link New Device on the primary smartphone allows scanning it. Users then select whether to link and synchronize data.
